About This Place

Nestled in the scenic Mt Laguna area, The Outpost by Valley Farm offers a compelling blend of hearty comfort food and rustic mountain charm. This restaurant is a standout destination for lovers of slow-smoked BBQ, inventive burgers, and flavorful pizzas—all served in a warm, inviting atmosphere that perfectly complements its breathtaking surroundings.

At The Outpost, the menu showcases a thoughtful selection of dishes that celebrate bold flavors and quality ingredients. The Slow Smoked BBQ Pulled Pork and the Miss Piggy Pizza, layered with Route 94 BBQ sauce, caramelized onions, jalapeños, and a luscious five-cheese blend, demonstrate a masterclass in barbecue magic. The Signature VFM Smashburger, served on a soft King's Hawaiian bun with umami onions and secret sauce, delivers a satisfying, juicy bite that has guests coming back for more.

For those who crave variety, the Carne Asada Fries excite the palate with crisp fries smothered in Monterey Jack cheese, fresh pico de gallo, avocado crema, and a smoky chipotle aioli. The El Barracho Pizza and Eggcellent Breakfast Pizza venture into creative territory, while the Italian Antipasto Salad and The Herbivore Pizza cater to lighter, yet equally vibrant, tastes.

The dining experience is elevated by the setting itself: a cozy mountain lodge atmosphere adorned with mountain-themed décor, a welcoming bar, and a social living room. Guests can enjoy the glow and warmth of a fireplace during cooler weather, making it an ideal spot for lingering over drinks or celebrating with friends. The impressive beer on draft selection, along with whiskey and wine offerings, complements the hearty entrees perfectly.

Customer feedback paints a vivid picture of The Outpost’s appeal. Joseph Gallo praises the "terrific ambiance" and "excellent" barbecue pulled pork, emphasizing it as a prime lunch or dinner destination. Sylvana Wick loved the "great food and great location," particularly noting the gluten-free bun served with the pulled pork sandwich and the beautiful scenery from the back deck. For larger groups, it’s a reliable refuge, as Kimmel Yeager attests, highlighting the friendly staff, impeccable service, and delicious food that turned a challenging mountain trek into a memorable experience.

The Outpost also shines as a social hub. Cody Mauzy recounts how what started as a casual visit after work quickly became an "unofficial company party," praising the “rustic mountain vibes,” strong drinks, and lively atmosphere complete with plenty of TVs for sports fans. While Brandy Blazen noted a busy kitchen during peak times, the attentive management’s prompt staffing adjustments show a dedication to improving guest experience.

In essence, The Outpost by Valley Farm is more than just a restaurant—it is an inviting mountain retreat where robust, smoky flavors meet warm hospitality and stunning alpine views. Whether you’re seeking an exceptional BBQ feast, a creative pizza, or simply a welcoming spot to unwind with friends and family, The Outpost delivers a memorable taste of Mt Laguna’s culinary spirit that lingers long after the last bite.

We went for happy hour and dinner. They also have rooms for rent. The ombiance is terrific, as was the BBQ pulled pork. They have a good selection of beer on draft, whiskey, wine, and a fireplace that would be very nice in winter. An excellent place for lunch or dinner in Laguna, San Diego county. Edit: We visited again and had the Route 94 BBQ Bacon Double Smash Burger. It was excellent, especially after hiking.

It was a nice drive to Mt Laguna. The decor was mountain themed with a bar and social living room. About 12 tables and a seperate place to order food. Menu featured a good selection. Food took over an hour for a pizza, nachos, and wings. The place was busy but the issue was only 1 guy in the kitchen. They got him some help and I could see food start coming out of the kitchen a bit faster. Food was good but priced a little on the higher side for portion size.

I recently led a trip to the mountains with 150 college students. It rained, it poured, it was freezing… and so we meandered our way to The Outpost. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the kindest, friendliest staff. The service was impeccable, the drinks were hot, and the food was absolutely delicious. THANK YOU for saving our trip, Outpost—USD loves you!

Stopped by The Outpost by Valley Farm in Mt. Laguna after wrapping up a long week of work and it basically turned into an unofficial company party for Legacy Home Energy. If you’re working or living in East County San Diego and need a solid spot to unwind, this place is hard to beat. Great atmosphere, rustic mountain vibes, friendly staff, strong drinks, and plenty of TVs for football. Perfect spot to decompress after a full day of HVAC installs, service calls, or projects up here in Mt. Laguna and the surrounding areas. The bar setup is awesome, the selection is solid, and the whole place feels welcoming whether you’re a local, contractor, or just passing through. We do a lot of work throughout East County San Diego, and spots like this are exactly why we love serving communities like Mt. Laguna. Highly recommend The Outpost by Valley Farm if you’re looking for a laid-back mountain bar with good energy, good people, and a great setting. We’ll definitely be back.

Walked from Canada to Mexico and stopped here in the freezing rain. Some of the best food over the last 2,500 miles, and I've eaten A LOT in resorty type towns. The highlight, to my surprise, was the carne asada fries.
